Homeowners in these regions may be unable to secure private insurance for windstorm and hail damage and must obtain this coverage through the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA).
What is a Windstorm Inspection?
A windstorm inspection is a structural evaluation conducted by a TDI-certified engineer to verify that a building meets Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) requirements for wind and hail resistance. During the inspection, the engineer reviews construction materials, design plans, and installation methods to ensure the property complies with state building codes for high-wind zones. Upon approval, the engineer issues a WPI-8 form, which is required for homeowners to qualify for windstorm insurance coverage.
